I want one more redneck to tell me one more time that race doesn’t matter. Because it does. And I have never felt more like a “stupid little white girl” than I did when I walked into a group of black people, introduced myself as a social work student , and asked if they would answer some questions about their community.
Lesson learned, Deb, lesson learned. You can’t do social work TO people. You must do it WITH people. And that only happens if they accept you as a part of the community.
