Greetings, ya’ll. I’ve had this book for some time but had to delay telling you about it until the day of the official Blog Tour. Which is today!
Now you know me, and you know I love the yarns– the fondling, the buying, the spinning, the knitting or crocheting. One thing I don’t do a lot of is use yarns for other than their intended purpose. Because…well, I don’t know. I guess it never occurred to me!
However, this book has a bunch of projects that you can do with yarn that don’t take hooks or needles. I am really contemplating two: the lamp (pictured on the front cover) and the yarn painting (they did a take on Starry Night. Who could even resist that?).
The projects look fairly quick and simple. Most of them use small bits. You really won’t bust much stash, but you can use up some oddballs here. For me, 2 out of 50 projects isn’t enough excitement. There’s a good amount of kitsch, and not much sophistication. However, you must remember that I’ve done a stint as a professional knitter, and it takes a bit to wow me. I don’t think I’m really the target audience.
But my kids…the ones who keep begging me to teach them to knit, but won’t sit still for more than 10 minutes at a time? They are going to LOVE this book. Even the more complicated projects can be done a few minutes at a time. I know they will love creating some string art, or embellishing shoes and bags. I’m tucking this book away for Christmas for them. And then I need to find some oddballs I am willing to part with!
I have quite a stash, so I’m sure I could find some projects in this book to use it up.
